There comes a time in every skaters career that an injury occurs. Sometimes they're minor and the recover is short term, other times they're major and you're off skates for a while. But injuries are a risk you take in a full contact sport. Unfortunately, in my case, it was major. While practicing for playoffs, I fell and broke both my tibia and fibula in my left leg.
Due to the extent of my injury, they put in both a plate and a rod with several screws to hold the bones back together. My recover time was estimated to be at least 6 months.
Needless to say I was off of work for a month. It sucked. Thank goodness for Netflix, pain meds, coloring books and awesome friends.
And had to live and sleep with my leg elevated for 2 months.
Once I got my stitches out, I upgraded to an air cast boot.
Nate was awesome enough to decorate it for me.
Since I couldn't play in D2 playoff my teammates sent their love from Detroit.
But I did get some awesome visitors in the process...
Dad came to take care of me. He cooked, hung shelves and spent a lot of time watching Breaking Bad with me.
Kris came out to help take care of me. I took her to the Third Ward for a sisters night out at Splash Studio.
I spent a lot of shopping trips in very slow motorized carts. Old ladies could walk faster than me.
